The Redemptorists and Our Mother of Perpetual Help
St Alphonsus, the Founder of the Congregation, is deeply devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and chosen Her to be the Patroness of the Order. He dedicated one of his major works promoting love and devotion to Our Lady: The Glories of Mary.
Beside proclaiming the Good News to the poor, the Redemptorist is commissioned by the Church to spread Marian devotion under the title “Our Mother of Perpetual Help.”
This mission was given to the Redemptorist by Pope Pius IX in 1866, with the instruction : “make her known throughout the world.”
This year, 2016, is the 150th anniversary the Church had entrusted the miraculous icon to the Redemptorist. For the last 150 years, the Redemptorist have great devotion to her and have made her known everywhere they are sent.
The Extra-Patriam Vice Province have built a shrine devoted to her and organized a national Our Mother of Perpetual Help Conference each year in Houston, TX.
